The 2023 MLC Season 2 domestic draft has unearthed some exciting talents in the world of cricket. Former Pakistan U19 captain Hassan Khan, wicketkeeper-batsman Adithya Ganesh, and South African prodigy Joshua Tromp have emerged as the standout selections in the draft.
Hassan Khan, who represented the Chicago Kingsmen in the MiLC, had a sensational all-round season. He scored 220 runs in just 5 innings at an impressive strike rate of 181.
Adithya Ganesh, who previously played for the Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL, showcased his skills for the East Bay Blazers in the MiC. Despite a modest performance with the bat, scoring 265 runs in 10 innings, Ganesh secured a spot in the MLC.
Joshua Tromp, the young talent from Houston Hurricane, caught the attention of the Texas Super Kings. Despite being in the U23 category, Tromp was chosen as their top pick. He had a breakthrough season, scoring 362 runs in 10 innings with 4 half-centuries in the highly competitive central division.
Surprisingly, the draft did not see any bids for former India U19 star Smit Patel. Patel, who had previously represented the Barbados Royals, has been overlooked as a domestic player in the MLC. This omission has raised eyebrows in the American cricket circles.
Several other notable signings include Hampshire and USA all-rounder Ian Holland joining Washington Freedom, and Ruben Clinton, Heath Richards, and Rushil Ugarkar joining MI New York. The LA Knight Riders have brought back Corne Dry and Derone Davis, while the Seattle Orcas have acquired Hammad Azam, Ali Sheikh, and Ayan Desai.
The San Francisco Unicorns have added some Caribbean flavor to their team with the inclusion of Jahmar Hamilton and Karima Gore, along with former Mumbai Indians opener Tejinder Singh.
